Pet Health Includes Your Pet's Weight, and More Pet News
Once upon a time, a long time ago...probably at least last year (LOL) people picked on my cat, Wabby Wibby becase she was big-boned. Or, fluffy. In other words, she was porky.
Like the now famous 44 pound kitty of Regis and Kelly fame, Wabby Wibby waddled when she walked. She
only weighed 13 pounds, and none of the vets I took her to ever commented about her weight. It was the human beings who petted her or picked her up that thought she was a bit over the top. I've always thought she was just fluffy. Much like my daughter's cat, Booger, shown here. (Wabby did not want her picture taken, sorry)
She's old now...and has lost some weight. She still wobbles when she walkes. It's how she walks. But, it is time for her check-up...to find out whether or not this weight loss is something to be concerned with. Unlike the "jumbo stray" nicknamed Princess Chunky ('she' turns out, is a 'he')... Wabby will never be famous and will always rely on her simple, but fond, people to care for her.
Which we will do. Regardless of cost. Because she is so important to us. Even without pet health insurance. At this stage, and at this age, pet health insurance probably isn't for us. Although, I need to go in and check that out, before I rule it out.
According to this article in Arizona Living, "Spending on pet health up despite bad economy," the issue of caring for our pets, regardless of cost, is not going away any time soon. Nor should it. The Arizona article by Jessica Meyers, said, "Debra Gwathney spent her $600 stimulus check on her three cats. Summer Rose took on a second job to pay for her pug's hip replacement. And Christine Lewis says she dishes out more on her beagle than her friends do on their toddlers."
What's it all about? It's about love. Pure and simple. And, the ability to take better care of our pets, today. Back in the day...way before Wabby meowed her first meow, pet insurance didn't exist, and if your beloved dog or cat was sick - with cancer or an injury - you sometimes had to choose: rent, food, gas...or paying for my pet's vet bill.
I'm glad those days are behind us. I'm glad pet health insurance exists. When I was visiting my family in CO, in June, I dislocated my left shoulder. There wasn't one second of worry on how I was going to pay for the big emergency room bill...I knew my health insurance would cover most, if not all, of it. After my co-pay and decuctible (I don't get injured very often).
Now, I can have that security with my cat and dog. And, that's worth every penny. IMHO
